For the M. A. in TESOL, 36 graduate credits are required in the following areas:
I. Core Courses (12 credits required)
II. TESOL courses (minimum of 6 credits required)
In addition to the required courses specified above, MA candidates are required to take 6 credits, or more from various TESOL offerings. These are of 2 main kinds:
a) General TESOL Program Offerings - courses such as:
b) Specialized TESOL Methodology - courses of 1 credit that each have an associated Practicum, but can be taken separately as well.
III. *Practica (minimum of 6 credits required)
Each candidate is required to take a minimum of 2 practica (each 3 credits) in order to experiment with, synthesize and internalize new ideas gained in the program. Selected topics include:

IV. Language Analysis, Acquisition and Assessment (minimum of 3 credits required)
Candidates can choose one of the following courses:
V. Out of Program Offerings (minimum of 3 different courses of 3 credits each is required)
The purpose of these courses is to provide intellectual stimulation outside of the professional area of teaching English. The courses offered are chosen specifically to add to, or deepen understandings in general educational theory and practice, and so are useful for providing contrasting and complementary ideas. The courses taught by New York-based Teachers College Professors, are typically offered in weekends during the Summer-A semester in June. Each summer, particular courses are specified for each group. Some on-line course options are also available during the final year of the program.
