A LETTER FROM JOHN FANSELOW

Dear Friends,

Thanks to loyal supporters like you, we have raised close to $70,000.00 since the establishment of the John F. Fanselow scholarship fund upon my retirement, seven years ago. We have a total of more than 300 contributors to date, including the President of Teachers College, Arthur Levine, who contributed $5,000.00 a great honor both to me and the TESOL programs in New York and Tokyo.

In spite of our success, we still need to reach our goal of raising $100,000.00. We realize that in Japan this type of contribution is not a tradition. However, this is a way to show your appreciation for the program and your experience at TC.

Many of you send along a gift after I write a letter of recommendation, which of course I appreciate. But a cash contribution to the scholarship fund would be very much more appreciated as it will benefit many people. As a college president, I have learned again how difficult changing different conversations and practices can be. As a result, I have rededicated myself to supporting change; breaking rules; having contrasting conversations, and trying the opposite. Supporting change and supporting different perspectives is the only way to move forward.

In Japan you can make the yen deposit electronically to:

MITSUI SUMITOMO BANK
KASUMIGASEKI BRANCH
FUTSU ACCOUNT #6452116
John F. Fanselow Scholarship (in katakana) Fund

Sincerely,

John F. Fanselow, Fellow Teacher
President, International Pacific College, Palmerston North NZ
Professor Emeritus, Columbia University, Teachers College
