The Fall semester will stretch from Saturday, September 1st 2007 to Sunday, January 20th 2008, with most classes offered as usual every Saturday 4pm to 8pm, and Sunday 10am to 5pm.
For some courses however, the class times will vary slightly, with some of the classes finishing earlier on Sundays (10am to 2pm), and some courses starting at 3:30pm and finishing at 7:30pm on Saturdays, so please check the schedule carefull
Tuition charges for Fall 2007 will be:
For all courses in all sessions, you are required to pay the full fees by the due date on your fees statement. If however you have an unavoidable problem with full payment by the due date given above you must contact the TC Office Manager, as far as possible before the payment date.
Note that there is and has been in the past special provision for installment payments in certain circumstances, and by agreement with the Office Manager. When installments are agreed upon, the Office Manager would like the fees for Fall 2007 to be paid according to the following schedule:
Three payments by September 30th, October 31st, and November 30th only.
If you would like to take up the installment payment option, you must contact the Office Manager at least one week before the due date for full payment. The Office of Students Accounts in New York has mandated that the following Late Payment Penalties should apply:
"Failure to clear all account balances may result in two late payment penalties. An initial late payment fee of Yen 6000 will be charged on any outstanding balance after the second billing date (in this semester October 31st), and a 1.33% monthly late payment penalty (16% annually) will be assessed on any outstanding balance past due thereafter."
Please note also that in some cases, failure to pay fees in a reasonably timely manner means that registration will be put on hold until all accounts are settled. The Registrar in New York has stated the following Teachers College policy regarding overdue fees:
"Students who have outstanding financial obligations are put on hold by the Office of Student Accounts. This hold will block future registrations and the release of transcripts and the diploma. Until the financial hold is clear, students are unable to register for classes and therefore do not have a valid ID card for the term. The student is also not listed as a registered student. Without a valid ID card a student does not have access to library borrowing privileges, nor can he or she maintain an e-mail account with the university [subscription to the TC-Infoweb denied]"
Please remember that there is a strict time limit for adding or droppng courses. You can add or drop a course up until:
Additions can only be made with the permission of the instructor. After the drop period has finished you may withdraw or be asked to withdraw from a course at any time (but, of course, not after the course has finished). In the case of a withdrawal, however, there is no refund of tuition fees and your final grade for the course is WD.
And remember: you must not register if you cannot attend all the sessions!
To avoid unnecessary problems, please think very carefully before registering and ask for advisement if you wish; changes are very time-consuming for both you and the TC Office Manager.
Please also note that, in any given semester, courses may have to be canceled in the event of insufficient enrollment, as it is felt that a 'critical mass' is needed for discussion and cross-fertilization of ideas. We will let you know as soon as possible if this occurs. The same is true in the case of unavoidable schedule changes after the publication of the original dates.
Please fill in all parts of your registration form carefully in ENGLISH, not Japanese. Taking the time to do this now will forestall potential future problems. Particularly important points are:
Thank you!
