This workshop will offer teachers a step by step program in how to create and perform Jazz Chants for students of all ages but with an emphasis on young learners. Ms. Graham will demonstrate how to work with poetry in the language classroom and will show how to create an in-class performance piece combining poetry and jazz. Students will also learn how to write their own "formula poems" based on the work of the New York poet Kenneth Koch. Students will learn how to use music and movement in the language classroom and how to create original lyrics to familiar melodies.
Assessment for the course will be based on:

This book is not required but would be of special interest for students who plan to teach young learners.
