Course Description

This course covers psychological theories and research that relate to various media (computers, TV, World Wide Web, interactive video, virtual reality, etc,) and what people learn directly and indirectly from them. This course is completely asynchronous (does not require the learner to be online on any specific day or time); however, it does follow a weekly schedule of assigned readings, discussions and thinking activities. Additionally, students are expected to complete a midterm and final project.

BIO

Ms. Hachey obtained her BS in Elementary Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Education from Eastern Michigan University, a Masters degree in Education from the University of Michigan-Dbn and a Masters in Computing and Education from Teachers College, NY. She has worked as a Head Start Administrator/ Preschool Lead Teacher and as an intern for the T.V. show Blues Clues. She is a Technology Fellowship recipient and a current member of the DLP faculty at Teachers College in NY. Ms. Hachey's major research interests include: mental models and cognitive development, the uses of television and simulation software in early childhood education and distance learning. She teaches two online course for the Department of Human Development at Teachers College: Cognition and Learning, and Psychology of Media.
