DESCRIPTION

Visions of Teachers and Teaching looks at how teachers, schools and learning are portrayed in visual media. To that end, the course materials include a number of popular films about teachers, teaching and studentsprimarily in the United states from the 1940s through the 1990s. We will consider how teachers are portrayed and why. The course uses an anthology textbook to provide historical context for the time periods that these films portray.

Students will be asked to analyze the films they see, in comparison to what they have read. There will be a number of short writing assignments throughout the semester. Students will also be asked to contribute their representative visions (i.e. movies etc) of teachers and teaching.
