There is no limitation on the number of books borrowed.

If the librarian is not in the library and you wish to check out a book:

  1. Fill in the check-out form with:
    Date/Your Name/Group#/Book Title/Barcode#
  2. Leave it on her desk.

Books are to be returned by the due date. If you are not able to return a book by the due date, please contact the librarian about your situation in advance.

If the material you have checked out is requested, we will ask you to return the book A.S.A.P.

When you come to the library to return books, please do not put them back on the shelf. You can hand them to the librarian, or if she is not there, please put them in the "book return box" behind the office counter desk.

If you are not able to come to the TC library to return a book, please send it by takkyu-bin to:

Columbia Univ. Teachers College, TC Library
Leaf Square Suidobashi Bldg. 4F

Borrowers are responsible for the replacement cost of lost or damaged books.

If you are late in returning books and do not respond to email and phone requests for a period of one month, you will be asked to pay a late fine at the rate of 10 yen per day from the due date of the borrowed item.

III. Reference Services Policy

Library Workshop: How to find & get the information you need
Library workshops are available upon request. Please schedule one in advance at the library counter. One session would take 60-90 minutes. The workshop can be given either in English or in Japanese.

Reference Inquiries and Questions
We accept reference questions via email in addition to our face-to-face services. Please send an email to tclibrary@tc-japan.edu for any library-related questions. Please keep in mind that it may take some days to answer your email, depending on librarian's work schedule.

IV. Inter-Library Loan / Document Delivery Policy

If books or journal articles that are not owned by our library are requested, they can be obtained from other libraries. You will have to pay the one-way postal fee (amount varies). Books borrowed via Inter-Library Loan are "in library use only."

V. Other General Policies

When You are in the Library
No food or drink is allowed in the library.

Please limit printing to ONE copy of any document. This will help reduce paper jams and other printing problems. If additional copies are needed for class handouts, please use the copy machine for that purpose.

Visits to Other Libraries
You may wish to visit other libraries for special materials that the TC Library does not have. Ask the staff to provide you with a letter of introduction. You cannot borrow books on the letter of introduction; an Inter-Library Loan should be arranged.

Library Policy for TC alumni
To improve the library facilities and resources, as of January 2010, we ask the cooperation of our alumni in paying 500 yen per visit to the library. Those alumni who have coupon tickets can use them as payment for the 500 yen. This does not apply to those Alumni who are taking courses for non-credit or who act as course assistants for professors in courses. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
